Why are politicians the main goal of climate protests and climate justice?
Why politicians? We can answer: Because we think they have the power to stop climate change in their hands. But is that true? In a democratic establishment, people have power in their hands! Politicians should only represent them. Yes, that is a nice theory.
However, politicians today represent a variety of interests and little concern for citizens’ interests. Honor exceptions. Citizens’ interest is a good life. Good life means peaceful coexistence and rights for yourself and youth and children. Right to freedom, clean water, air, healthy food and the natural environment. Do politicians provide us with things that are in our civil and personal interests?
Do we have clean water, air, food, and environment,
and will we have them after the planet's warming?
The children most concerned are beginning to realize that this may not be the case forever. Every day there is an increased likelihood that they will lose these things – we will all come.
Therefore, it is natural and right that we are looking for solutions! We are looking for them with politicians because they have taken on the responsibility to take care of things and public interests. But they don’t just care about them and we have to remind them of our interests over and over again. And how do politicians react to this?

I am fighting for my future!
“Losing my future is not like losing an election, or a few points on the stock market.
I am here to speak for all generations to come. I am here to speak — speak on behalf of the starving children around the world whose cries go unheard. I am here to speak for the countless animals dying across this planet, because they have nowhere left to go. .. I am afraid to breathe the air, because I don’t know what chemicals are in it. .. In my life, I have dreamt of seeing the great herds of wild animals, jungles, and rainforests full of birds and butterflies, but now I wonder if they will even exist for my children to see.Did you have to worry of these things when you were my age? I’m only a child, yet I know we are all part of a family — five billion strong; in fact 30 million species strong — and borders and governments will never change that. I’m only a child, yet I know we are all in this together and should act as one single world towards one single goal.
I am only a child who knows that if all the money spent on wars were used to solve environmental problems, end poverty and create agreements, what a wonderful place this Earth could be.
“Parents should be able to comfort their children by saying, “Everything’s going to be all right; .. we’re doing the best we can.” But I don’t think you can say that to us anymore. Are we even on your list of priorities?”
Politicians are our target in the struggle for our rights and the rights of nature and the Earth, but we know that we cannot wait for them. We see that we cannot rely on them. Transition initiatives around the world have decided not to wait but act because they believe that when we wait for politicians and institutions, we don’t have to do it. They also believe that when we act together, we can do it. That’s very important!
Each of us can produce less waste and CO2 every day (in addition to some form of protest)! Each of us can help someone out of his neighborhood. Each of us can proactively create links and a network of people that support others and others in their efforts to protect the planet. We need her, and everything she lives on, from butterflies and bees to rhinos and whales. From small bakeries, fungi and algae, to the most massive thousands of trees and the most beautiful flowers.
We need to protect them from the greed of the unscrupulous civilization that the millennia formed by irresponsible, short-sighted adults. Let’s talk about it! FridaysforFuture March 15, 2019, the World Strike for the Future of the Climate and every other day on Earth.
